Remote Video Appearances

Remote Video Appearances

Remote video appearances are authorized for criminal and civil cases (see below), and well as for appearances in Domestic Violence and Gun Violence Petition Hearings.

The Madera County Superior Court is utilizing "Zoom" as the preferred remote appearance platform.

NOTE:  When appearing remotely, participants must fully display their first and last names.

Criminal Cases:

Effective July 1, 2022, and pursuant to AB 199 and SB 135, remote video appearances are allowed for criminal cases (and AB 170 extended the authorization of remote video appearances through December 31, 2026); however, certain limitations apply (see the Zoom Appearance Request Form link above for more information).

Civil Cases:

Effective July 1, 2023, SB 133 amended provisions authorizing the use of remote video appearances in civil cases (and AB 170 extended the authorization of remove video appearances through December 31, 2026).  Prior to the passing of SB 133,  California Rule of Court  (CRC) 3.672 implemented specific procedures for parties appearing remotely in civil matters.  Based on the amendments in SB 133, CRC 3.672 now applies to general civil proceedings, including juvenile dependency proceedings and adoption finalization hearings.  CRC 3.672 does not apply to juvenile justice (delinquency) proceedings held pursuant to the Welfare and Institutions Code § 679.5 or proceedings held pursuant to CCP § 367.76 (a)(1), (A-H).  It is important to note that CRC 3.672 does not impact remote appearances in criminal cases.

Please fill out the Zoom Appearance Request Form above, and see below for the forms that may need to be submitted to the court in response to CRC 3.672 and the noted civil proceedings:
